Wieder mal ein technisches Problem mit dem TC1100: Hibernation funktioniert nicht, wenn man mehr als ein GByte RAM installiert hat. Problem ist nun gelöst, wie auf http://www.tabletpcbuzz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=26374 nachzulesen ist:
I was all excited about upgrading my TC1100 to 1.5GB of RAM using a Crucial memory board. Everything seemed fine, but after the upgrade, I started to have two occasional problems -- the computer would not go into hibernate, and would come out of standby on its own. The latter is very annoying, as I would find the computer running, in its case, getting cooked.
I had error message balloons disabled, so I initially did not realize that this was an "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API" error. This is a known error with XP and systems having more than 1GB of RAM. It occurs when there are many things running at once, and can be avoided by closing most of what is running before going into hibernate mode. But doing so of course defeats the advantage of using hibernate.
The problem was supposed to have been fixed with a patch for SP1 and as part of SP2, but these have not solved the problem, and many people seem to be experiencing the problem. However, I've not seen much mention of it in this forum.

UPDATE December 31, 2005
MS has released a hotfix that appears to have solved the problem, at least for me. Unfortunately, it's not a general release, and you have to call MS to get it. If MS determines that the fix applies to your computer, there is no charge for the call or service.

Das neue Jahr beginnt ja schon gut: Da komme ich aus den Bergen zurück, habe im Zug noch mit dem Tablet PC gearbeitet und will ihn zuhause wieder einschalten: Kein Wank.
Nimmt man die Harddisk raus, so bootet der Tablet. Setzt man die Harddisk wieder ein, so macht das System keinen Wank mehr. Bevor Panik ausbricht: Im externen USB-Gehäuse schnurrt die Harddisk zufrieden vor sich hin und lässt grad ein Backup von sich machen. Soweit ist alles gut. Seid also alle brav und macht auch gleich ein Backup Eurer Daten...

- Andere Harddisk läuft im Tablet PC
- nachdem die HD des Tablet an einem anderen PC lief, läuft sie auch wieder im Tablet...

- Nach mehreren Schraub- und Stöpselaktionen im Büro scheint ein Wackelkontakt wahrscheinlich. Ich habe jetzt auf jedenfall das Gerät gewechselt, das alte wird als Garantiefall eingeschickt.
- Update IV:
- Ein wackelkontakt kann es noch immer sein, aber die Frage ist: Wo? Heute beim Versuch, den (neuen) Tablet PC fürs nach Hause gehen abzuschalten, hatte ich wieder einen Bluescreen.
- Es gilt nun, unter folgenden Bestandteilen des Tablet PCs den Urheber des Problems zu finden:
- Tablet PC
- Harddisk
- Speichererweiterung
- Tastatur
- Netzteil
- Betriebssystem
- Ich hasse die nun folgende Kombinatorikübung. Ausser Harddisk und Betriebssystem habe ich alles doppelt, kann also mit Experimentieren beginnen. Ich weiss aber noch nicht, wie ich den Fehler auslösen kann, was die Sache zusätzlich erschwert...

- Praktisch kein Tablet-PC-Hersteller präsentiert seine Tablet-PCs in den breit gestreuten Prospekten (z.B. Sonntagspresse)
- Vorteile von Tablet-PCs zeigen sich im Medizinal-, Logististik-, Aussenddienst- und Bildungsbereich. Zumindest im Bildungsbereich begegne ich aber immer noch ICT-Verantwortlichen, die noch nie (!) einen Tablet-PC gesehen haben und mich fragen, ob mein Computer neu sei (nein, ich nutze seit 2 Jahren einen Tablet)

Da das Spiel Hexic Deluxe in die deutsche Version des Tablet PC Experience Pack übernommen wurde, vermute ich, dass das Education Pack nicht auf Deutsch übersetzt werden wird. Das wäre schade, denn das Ink Flash Cards klingt vielversprechend für Lernzwecke...

Da Microsoft gewisse Tools (TabletPCEducationPack) nur für die englische Betriebssystemversion von Windows Tablet PC Edition publiziert hat, besteht das Bedürfnis, die Sprachidentifikation von MS Windows zu ändern. Ein Tipp aus dem Internet schlägt folgendes Vorgehen vor:
- open regedit
- goto
HKEY_Local_Machine\System\Currentcontrolset\control\Nls\Language - change the the value of "installLanguage" and "default" to
0409(write down somewhere what was ther before) - reboot
