My Experiences with Plazes

Today I received an E-Mail from Eva:
First, let me introduce myself. I'm Eva and I study at the University of Amsterdam. At the moment I'm writing an academic article on Plazes and am interested in the way people use the website.

I was wondering if you would maybe answer one, two or three wink questions about your personal experiences on the website since you are one of the top users of the site. Those would be:

  • In which way(s) does using Plazes contribute to your social life?
  • What are your motives to openly put your whereabouts online?
  • Do you have any fears of your privacy being intruded in any way because of the site?

If you experienced any kind of funny Plazes-moment, please let me know as well smile It would be great to hear from you!

Even I have only one job, I'm working at several places. The University of Applied Sciences I'm working for is located in several cities in Switzerland and I have more than one meeting or workshop per week at another place. Plazes announces where I am on my job's homepage and in Skype. So co-workers, colleages and people willing to meet me can easily see where I am at the moment. This fosters having lunch or a cup of coffee together.

I'm not sure if I will continue to broadcast my coordinates for years but at the moment I don't have any fears (as long as I can decide freely if my coordinates are public). As a promotor of ICT in education, my use of Plazes can provoce discussions about advantages and disadvantages of new technologies.
